Saliva Specimens

Sputum/Saliva Collection

Important Things to Consider:

1. Quality of testing is dependent on the quality of the sample. Incorrectly collected samples may produce inaccurate results.

2. For Sputum/Saliva Collection, please collect the specimen 30 minutes after ingesting food or drink.

   • Be careful not to spill the liquid in the tube. Do NOT drink the liquid.​​​​

   • 3-5 mL of Sputum/Saliva is needed to ensure a good sample.

3. Make sure the specimen tube is labeled with the patient first and last name as well as patient date of birth.
